Mentors

Meet our YCAN mentors, who are professionals and have years of experience in the field of environment as strategists, mobilization expert, communication expert, and policy influencer. Through their vast experience and knowledge, they guide and enlighten YCAN about government policies, environmental trends, and importance of youth in the environmental sector to ensure the impactful outcome of YCAN's work.

Prarthana Borah

Prarthana Borah is India Director of Clean Air Asia, an international NGO, with headquarters in Manila and presence in 8 Asian countries that leads the mission for better air quality and healthier, more livable cities. At Clean Air Asia, Prarthana leads the India operations and works with cities to facilitate policy support and capacity building for better air quality in she is also leading the process of education and public engagement to create dialogue and discussions on air quality management and climate change, low emission urban development and sustainable transportation.


Prarthana has been involved in Environmental Education for children and youth in India for over 15 years. She introduced education for better air quality for middle schools in India having prepared a toolkit for engaging students in citizen science activity in air quality monitoring. She was also involved in environmental education with children in different regions of India including the Indian Ministry of Environment and Forests’ first Climate Change Education programme for eco clubs in schools, a project that is recognized by UNESCO as an ESD best practice.


Prarthana has over two decades of experience in strategic interventions for environmental protection and sustainable development with specific interest in biodiversity conservation, pollution, climate change and traditional knowledge. As communication strategist she has prepared policy documents which served as Government of India’s background papers at COP21 in Paris and the negotiation of the Sustainable Development Goals in United Nations.

Brikesh Singh

Brikesh is Mobilisation & Communication expert with more than 15 years of experience in environmental campaigning, citizen engagement and fundraising. He has worked with Greenpeace India, Turkey and other International organisations in a variety of roles.

Brikesh’s expertise includes conceptualising, planning and implementing innovative and engaging mobilisation strategies. In his current role with Asar Social Impacts, Brikesh is running the Clean Air Collective which is an unbranded network of 35+ organisations working on air pollution towards of common objective of stronger faster impact on the issue.

Rajat Rai Handa

Rajat Rai Handa is a public policy professional, currently working as the Advocacy and Communications Manager at Chintan Environmental Research and Action Group, a not-for-profit organization that works towards environmental sustainability and social justice and focuses its work on waste management. He has been leading Chintan's work on Air Pollution as part of the larger #MyRightToBreathe movement and believes that stronger enforcement of environmental standards and regulations is the need of the hour to tackle air pollution in India. In his spare time, Rajat teaches and mentors high school students through a specialized module called communications and citizenship. He has a masters degree in Public Policy, a bachelors degree in Physics and is certified as a developmental economist.

Abhishek Kumar

Abhishek is computer science engineer from VIT, Vellore who further went for an introductory management certificate program to Graduate School of Business, Stanford, USA. He is currently leading the efforts of Lung Care Foundation(LCF) towards “Care & Cure of 2.6 Billion Lungs in India” through his conceptualization, marketing, campaign planning and event planning skills. LCF wishes to get the attention of 1.3 Billion Indians to the immense damage to lungs due to increasing air pollution and the growing incidence of lung diseases.  He has earlier worked in the client solutions division with Aspiring Minds, an A.I. driven employability assessment firm and then interned with the International Trade Centre (a joint body of U.N. & WTO) at Geneva before dedicating full time to Lung Care Foundation from October 2017.
